Ouch! I used to do it years ago and remember it being on the order of 20 hours. Bring lots to read & listen to (Ipod, etc.); if you skip sleeping the day before, and you're lucky, you may fall asleep. Try to get next to an interesting partner; be bold and swap seats en-route if necessary. Chatting also will help divert your attention from the clostrophobia issue. Good luck; you'll make it!

This flight is about 20-21 hours. I do extremely long trips like this all the time (Dallas to Tokyo, Dallas to Inchon, Dallas to Bangkok, etc). Several things you might want to try: 1) don't drink any coffee for a day or two before the flight, or during the flight. The LAST thing you want is to be alert. 2) if you are into drinking, get hammered and pass out. 3) bring some nice headphones and watch all the in-flight movies. You can use the headphone that the airline provides of course but if you get a pair of your own and spend the extra money on noise-canceling it will be more enjoyable. If you are lucky some of them will be interesting and it will help pass the time. 4) bring a laptop and get some work done. You won't be doing this the WHOLE flight, but it will soak up some time. Perhaps load the laptop with some audiobooks, movies, eBooks, etc. I usually study Pimsleur foreign language courses on the plane, but it's not the best since you should really be *speaking* in those courses, not just listening. 5) Inflatable neck support pillow. This is a U-shaped pillow that you put behind your neck. Makes sleeping much easier in those horrible airplane seats. 6) blindfold. for sleeping. 7) fluids. I generally skip ALL of the meals they offer, except for the drinks. I take all the drinks they can bring. Stick with the juices (or beer/wine if you are going that route). the only time I really bother with airline food is when it's a company that has decent food. For me this has been Thai Airways and Korean Airlines. The food sucks on all the US carriers. The japanese airlines like ANA have generally bad food but sometimes you can get lucky. I prefer to eat in one of the over-priced places in the airport before the flight, or smuggle some airport food on the flight. dboy
