EASY10 POINTS: Do you have to go through US Customs on a flight from Hong Kong - Newark if you're a US citizen?
Do you have to go through US Customs on a flight from Hong Kong - Newark if you're a US citizen and carry a US passport? Some people on my flight back might be immigrating to the United States. Thanks. ---------------------------------------- Extra question: What are the procedures to check in on an international flight? Are the procedures the same as a domestic flight? If it helps, I am flying Continental.

You always have to go through customs if you're flying Internationally to the US. It doesn't matter whether or not you're an American citizen. Checking in to an international flight is more or less the same as checking in to a domestic flight. I'd say the only difference would be the location of the gate. International flight gates tend to be farther from check in because they usually use larger planes.

Everyone goes through customs ! The check in procedures are the same except they want you to check in 3 hours prior for an international flight.
