I ran a search for a flight from Manila to New York for some dates in October (low season). I used skyscanner.net and got the best deal for $1,123 round trip. This is the itinerary: Departing on Tue Sept 15th at 8:15am from MNL (Manila Ninoy Aquino) with Northwest Airlines through NRT ( Tokyo Narita) to JFK. Arrives at 15.05. Costs 561.93 $ Flight back: Tues 29 Sept at 13.50 from JFK with Northwest Airlines through NRT (Tokyo Narita) to MNL. Arrives at 22:55. Costs 561.93 $ If you want to check other dates, just go to http://www.skyscanner.net . I always search for budget flights there.

See if Continental Airlines has anything. There may be 2 or 3 stops if you fly on Continental. If you fly Philippine Airlines, then you arrive in Los Angeles and then can fly Continental non-stop to Newark. However Philippine Airlines does not have the greatest service.

Philippine Airlines go direct to LA and from there many option to get a connecting flight to Newark. Price depends on when it is booked, mid-week or weekend etc.
